ROTARACT team formed at ggn khalsa college

Ludhiana: New team of the Rotaract Club of GGN Khalsa College was appointed for the session 2016-2017. Gurkirat Singh, president and Sahil Rana, secretary, took the oath to serve the society in the best possible manner. Innovative ideas were given by team members. DS Makkar, Rotary district president and GS Saini, secretary, were also present on the occasion. Various cultural activities were also presented. A play on women empowerment was also staged.

STUDENTS SHINE

Amanjot Kaur of GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar, bagged the first position in MSc-Physics examination held by Panjab University, Chandigarh. She scored 85.3% marks. Gurpinder Kaur bagged the tenth position securing 79.9% marks. Manpreet Kaur bagged the third position in college with 77.1% marks. In al, 23 students secured the first division.

LECTURE ON ORGAN DONATION

An extension lecture on organ donation was held at Partap College of Education. The campaign was headed by an NGO, Gift of Life for Organ Donation Awareness Society (GLODAS) under the patronage of Dr BS Aulakh. Principal Balwant Singh said teachers could play an important role in spreading awareness among people regarding organ donation. The movement needed to spread beyond barriers of orthodox thinking, caste and superstitions. Manjula jain, secretary, GLODAS, in her motivational address to the students, mentioned the story of a seven-year old child, whose parents donated their child’s body to give a lease of life to eight other people.

AWARENESS SESSION

A session on ‘Sensitising youth towards senior citizens’ was held at Gujranwala Guru Nanak Institute of Management and Technology (GGNIMT), in association with the Senior Citizen’s Welfare Association. Students expressed their opinion on various topics. Deepika of BCom (Semester V) deliberated upon ‘Duty of youth towards elders’, Varinder Singh of MBA (Semester III) spoke on ‘Expectations of youth from elders’ and Aman Chopra of BCom (Semester V) shared his experiences with elders in his family. Students also asked questions about challenges better ways to build rapport with elders. —TNS
