Quiz
Students of Class IX and X of Guru Nanak Public School, Mullanpur, participated in quiz to mark ‘World Heritage Day’. Four students from each house participated in the quiz. Ravi house got first position, Beas house got second and Sutlej house got third position. Principal Ravi Kant congratulated the winners. A poster making competition was also held for Classes III to V. All the students participated with great enthusiasm.
Beat the heat party
ABC Montessori, BRS Nagar, organised a ‘beat the heat’ splash pool party for the little ones at water park of F2 raceway. Children enjoyed the rain dance on rocking music .They had their whole world in the pool with little animals, fruits and vegetables floating with them. Colorful balls and balloons raised their excitement. Students relished tasty mock tails and mixed fruit punches.
Seminar on career opportunities
Daniel Zaretsky, an education expert and director, Canadian University Application Centre (CUAC), Toronto, visited BCM Senior Secondary School, Chandigarh Road. He addressed the students of Class XII. He informed the students about career options, courses available and other exclusive opportunities for studying in Canada through an impressive presentation. Zaretsky clarified the doubts raised by the students.
Freshers party
Green Land Convent School, Civil City, organised a fresher’s party on the theme ‘blooming flowers’. A carnival like atmosphere prevailed in tastefully decorated campus. Children attired as beautiful flowers recited rhymes based on flowers and danced to the tunes of popular numbers. The zeal and enthusiasm of the new entrants was worth seeing as they got an opportunity to showcase their talent. Tiny tots of Kindergarten recited beautiful poems and welcomed their juniors. Principal Alka Mahajan welcomed the new comers and applauded the excitement with which they took part in the function. She gave away the titles to the outstanding performers. Tanya and Keshav were crowned as Miss fresher and master fresher, respectively.
Writing workshop
Drishti Dr RC Jain Innovative Senior Secondary Public School, Narangwal, conducted a reader-centered writing workshop developed by Dr Debore Domaine – Better Communication, USA, for the students of Classes VI-VIII. The purpose was to develop the writing skills of the students of middle sector. Various techniques were discussed by the experts Pukla Bedi and Puneetpal. These techniques would enable the students to express themselves in an emphatic way. Spell bee competition was also held to enhance vocabulary for writing and speaking skills of students.
World Book Day
World Book Day was celebrated at various city schools today. Students of BCM Kindergarten celebrated World Book Day with great zeal and fervour. Young scholars were introduced with various books at the school library including fairy tales, stories from panchtantra, art and craft books. The students showed a keen interest in the books and enjoyed looking at the pictures. Stories shown in 3D in the school entertained and impressed the young minds. Books are our true friends and a great treasure in our life. Habit of book reading must be imbibed in the children right from their childhood,” said principal Dr Vandana Shahi and motivated the students to read good books and to make them their best friend.
BCM School
At BCM Senior Secondary School, Chandigarh Road, students, teachers as well as the fourth grade employees of the school devoted half an hour and read books. Book review writing and self composed poem recitation competitions were organised for fanning the students’ interest in reading books. “Those, who say they have only one life, don’t know how to read books. One can get inspiration and experience of multiple lives by reading books by eminent saints and scholars,’’ said Kavita Dhingra, the school librarian.
Ryan International School
Students of primary Classes I and II prepared book marks and wrote slogans on it. At the same time students of Classes III to V participated in book reading competition and enjoyed reading. Students of Class VI onwards participated in poem recitation competition and story writing competition. It was a great fun for children to be part of these activities. A student said, “Books are our best friend it never leave us in difficult times; reading good book is always helpful for us.” Headmistress Ritu Syal said, celebrating World Book Day is the best way to show our respect towards books.
MGM Public School
To inculcate reading habit amongst the students, MGM Public School, Dugri, celebrated World Book Day. Students were made aware of the importance and origin of World Book Day in the morning assembly. One period was devoted by the students for reading a book of their choice. Principal Poonam Sharma encouraged the students to read more and more books and newspapers as it promotes creativity and also widens the scope of one’s thinking and intellect.
Earth Day celebrated
Students of Blossoms Convent School students took pledge to protect Mother Earth. As trees play a vital role in our life and it is our responsibility to preserve the greenery of motherly nature earth. Students made beautiful charts and slogans. Besides, Amarjit Kaur Naaz, principal, Blossoms Convent School encouraged students to plant trees to save environment. — TNS
