Fresh snowfall and torrential rain for the past 24 hours in Doda and Kishtwar districts forced the administration to close all educational institutes today. An order passed by Chief Education Officer, Kishtwar, said: “On the directions of District Development Commissioner, Kishtwar, all educational institutes (government as well as private) up to higher secondary level shall remain closed on March 9 and 10 due to bad weather.”
“The hostile weather conditions in Kishtwar forced us to close all schools keeping in mind the safety of the students. All schools in Kishtwar shall remain closed on Friday and a further decision will be taken keeping the weather conditions in mind,” said District Development Commissioner (DDC), Kishtwar, GN Balwan.
“We witnessed heavy rainfall in plains and snowfall in upper reaches but so far, all roads are open for traffic, including the Doda-Kishtwar national highway,” he added.
“Due to fresh snowfall and heavy rain, we closed schools today keeping the safety of students in mind but we have not yet decided about tomorrow,” said DDC, Doda, Bhupinder Kumar .
The higher reaches of the twin districts received fresh snowfall in the past 24 hours. The temperature consequently dipped across the Chenab region, forcing people to stay indoors.
