Principal Secretary, School Education Department, TC Gupta has refuted the Haryana Adhyapak Sangh’s allegation that the state government cancelled holidays of school teachers on four occasions.

Gupta said January 14, when he addressed education officials via Edusat, was not a holiday. He also denied that government teachers were asked to attend school on December 25 and January 25, both holidays. He said though DEOs were directed to observe Good Governance Day on December 25, but the holiday on account of Christmas was not cancelled.

Similarly, he said no instructions were issued to cancel the holiday on January 25 and Voters’ Day was observed on the Election Commission’s directions.

“District Election Officers-cum-Deputy Commissioners of some districts assigned duties for registration of voters and revision of rolls to some teachers. This cannot be a cause of concern for anybody, especially when it is permissible under the Right to Education Act,” he said.

Haryana Adhyapak Sangh chief Vazir Singh, however, maintained officials used their authority to issue verbal orders to teachers to organise functions in schools on holidays.
