Patiala: Dr Ganda Singh Career Guidance, Counseling and Placement Centre of GSSDGS Khalsa College, Patiala, organised a seminar on ‘Legal Aura’. The seminar was conducted by Advocate Parminder Singh, District Court Patiala, and Dr Kiranjot Kaur Uppal, anesthetic specialist at the Government Hospital. Dr Dharminder Singh Ubha, Principal, Khalsa College, Patiala, welcomed the dignitaries and stressed the need to aware youngsters about the legal system of the country and make students aware about the social problems and how to combat them effectively. Advocate Parminder Singh discussed the detrimental effects of drugs, alcohol and crimes related to the same. He apprised the students about the laws in the IPC regarding crimes related to drugs, domestic violence etc. He emphasised that the root cause of the increasing crime rate in the country was mainly drugs and alcohol. Dr Kiranjot Kaur Uppal enlightened the students about the problems faced by adolescents and youngsters such as infatuation at an early age and its impacts etc. Other than the guests, interns and the students pursuing law also participated in the discussion.
Cleanliness drive
Sudents of 3-Punjab Air Squadron Air Wing from Senior Secondary Model School, Punjabi University, Patiala, took part in a cleanliness drive on the school premises. Principal SK Nirmal Goyal and Satvir Singh from the school participated in the drive. On the occasion, the principal made the students aware of the importance of environment.
Farewell party
To bid adieu to the senior-most class of Shivalik Public School, Patiala, a farewell party was organised at the school. DS Bedi, Director of Shivalik Public Schools, was the chief guest. Principal Bhupinder Kaur Bhamra and administrator BS Malhotra were the guests of honour. Saloni and Shubham Attri were adjudged as Miss and Mr Shivalik, respectively, Pratibha Nanda and Karanjot Singh Sidhu won the title of Miss and Mr Personality. Amanpreet Kaur was awarded the title of Commerce Genius and Divyansh Soni was adjudged as Science Genius for the session. Addressing the students, the dignitaries emphasised on the importance of planning, hard work and perseverance as the key to success. The students enjoyed a lot and departed from the school with heavy hearts.
Mahashivratri celebrations
A special programme was organised at St Xavier’s International School, Patiala, on the eve of Mahashivratri. The sacred mantra of Shiva ‘Om Namah Shivaya’ was chanted to begin the celebration. Students of Class VII, dressed up in beautiful attires, danced to the tune of ‘Satyam Shivam Sundram.’ The powers and the role of Lord Shiva in the natural cycle were highlighted in the assembly. The ‘Tandava Nritya’ by tiny tots of Prep Wing mesmerised the audience. A prize distribution ceremony was held for the meritorious students for the academic session 2016-17. Principal Manjeet Waraich applauded the staff and the students for their efforts to make everyone spiritually enlightened.
Annual day celebrated
Podar International School, Patiala, celebrated its third annual day at Kalidasa Auditorium here. Annual day of the school, named as Navras, was a showcase of how talented little Podarites are. Dr Harjinderpal Singh Walia, Director, IAS Study Centre and HoD, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Punjabi University, Patiala, was the chief guest. The programme commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by Dr Walia, escorted by other dignitaries and the Principal, entailing the bouquet presentation and pinning of badges. This was followed by the formal commencement of the function. A musical presentation was given by students by using various musical instruments and finally through Navras (theme of the function), the students depicted nine emotions of life by drama and dances. Dr Walia gave away prizes to the academically meritorious pupils of the school. He appreciated the students’ efforts. The programme was planned, conducted and coordinated by the students under the mentoring and grooming of teachers. The vote of thanks was proposed by Principal Rajesh Puri. The programme culminated with the national anthem.
Lecture on herbal drugs held
The Bahra Institute of Pharmacy on the Rayat Bahra, Patiala Campus, organised an expert lecture on “Safety and Efficacy of Herbal Drugs” on its premises. Dr Suresh Kumar, Professor, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Punjabi University, emphasised that in today’s fast-paced world with increased level of stress, herbal and ayurveda could play a vital role in fighting diseases such as cancer, diabetes and arthritis. These herbal drugs are very safe as compared to allopathic medicines. He said these herbal medicines were cost-effective and within the reach of common man. He dispelled the general myth among public that ayurvedic and herbal drugs were recommended by unqualified doctors. He said any herbal drug gave best result when used in optimum dose as prescribed by a professional. Chairman of the Rayat Bahra Group Gurvinder Singh Bahra in his message made a plea for promoting use of herbal drugs which could help cure many diseases. He emphasised the holistic approach of ethno medicines in treating rare and life-threatening diseases which western medicines failed to do. Campus director Dr Piush Verma, while addressing the pharmacy students, dwelt on the use of herbal drugs and emphasised that pharmacy students and professionals should educate general public about the benefits of using herbal medicines. — TNS
