The academic session in other government schools for class XI began on April 1, but the meritorious schools are still holding counselling to admit students and fill the seats lying vacant. The Education Department yesterday held the third counselling in this regard.

Educationists have ‘opposed’ this exercise, saying if students will get admission at this stage, they will not be able to cover their syllabus. They even urged the authorities to arrange the schedule parallel to other government schools for admission in meritorious schools.

The PSEB had declared the results of Class X on May 24 and, thereafter, the entrance test was conducted twice to give admission to students in meritorious schools. However, a large number of seats had been left vacant in the first counselling because of the poor results of applicants. Some seats are lying vacant after the second counselling. Ranbir Bhandari, president, BEd Teachers’ Front, Muktsar, said, “The regular government schools started academic session of Class XI from April 1 on the basis of provisional admission, but meritorious schools are yet to complete the admissions. The authorities must adjust the schedule of admissions.”

Jaspal Monga, Deputy District Education Officer, Muktsar, said, “The late admission will definitely affect students. If some student who had got admission in the humanities group in any other school now gets admission in the meritorious school, he will have to face problems. The meritorious schools don’t offer humanities group.”
