The Directorate of Education, Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC), is all set to start functioning from the building of the Panth Ratan Jathedar Gurcharan Singh Tohra Institute of Advanced Studies in Sikhism, situated at Bhadargarh, from Tuesday .
Since its formation, the Directorate was being run from a temporary building, named Kalgidhar Niwas, in Chandigarh. The decision of shifting the Directorate has been taken by the SGPC management to cut the distance frosm educational institutes of the SGPC .
Patiala is a central place for most of the educational institutes being run by the SGPC in Punjab and Haryana. Notably, a major portion of the Tohra institute building was lying vacant and to make the most of it, the SGPC decided to shift the Directorate. The building has been constructed at a cost of Rs 14 crore. Dharminder Singh Ubha, Director, Education, said all the formalities regarding the shifting of the office had been completed.
