Dehradun, April 24
Sherwood College, Nainital, bagged the 16th Asian School Challenge debate organised by The Asian School here today. The winning team stood entitled to the Rolling Trophy and a reward of Rs 5,000. The Asian School, Dehradun, emerged the first runner–up. The other participating schools were St. George’s College, Mussoorie, Summer Valley School, Dehradun, St. Jude’s School, St. Joseph’s Academy and Ecole Globale International Girls’ School.
They spoke for and against the proposition “India is not ready for Uniform Civil Code. What with various religious and caste divides”.
Dr Anjali Nauriyal, an eminent journalist, Era Chauhan, a freelance journalist, and RK Singh, head of department, Kendriya Vidyalaya, ITBP, Dehradun, were the judges of the event.
Earlier, Madanjeet Singh Juneja, vice-president of The Asian School, AK Das, principal of The Asian School, and the judges lit the lamp to inaugurated. Das congratulated the winners and said the topic was quite exciting and was eloquently dealt with by students. The debate this evening was a combination of preparation and extempore.
Das gave away awards to the winners. Gagan Jyot Juneja, Director of The Asian School, Geeta Das, Anant VD Thapliyal, vice–principal, Mukesh Nangia, head Middle School, Kalpana Grover, headmistress, school staff and guests were present on the occasion. The event ended with a vote of thanks proposed by Shreya Yadav.

Best Speaker (against): Apoorv Gaurav Vikram Singh, Sherwood College, Nainital
Best Rebuttal (for): Ojasvita Negi, St. Joseph’s Academy, Dehradun
Best Rebuttal (against): Apoorv Gaurav Vikram Singh, Sherwood College, Nainital
Best Team: Sherwood College, Nainital.
