The Student Organisation of India (SOI) is likely to field a student from the Urdu Department for the post of the president at Panjab University. Sources said Piyush Anand, who is a student of Urdu, would be the presidential candidate of the party.
Last year, Piyush had filed the nomination from the UIET but SOI had withdrawn his paper. SOI state unit president Vicky Middhukhera said Piyush had a strong hold in the UIET, which had 2514, votes as he was an ex-student of the department.
During the filing of nominations, three parties objected to his candidature on the ground that he signed in the signature column and above.
Another candidate in the fray is NSUI’s Siya Minocha, who is a student of the UILS. Objecting to her candidature, the NSUI (Student Front) said as to how her papers were approved when she took admission at the department only two days ago. They questioned as to how she fulfilled the criteria of minimum attendance. PUSU is expected to field Nishant Kausahl of biotechnology as papers of their main candidate Brahmjot Singh from the Department of History was rejected due to a shortage of attendance.
