It is a dream come true for the city lad Sukirat Singh Bhatia. Son of a neurologist, Dr Rupinder Singh, and a gynaecologist, Dr Hardeep Kaur Bhatia, Sukirat has stood first in the city with an all-India rank 96 in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test — Phase 1 and 2, the result of which was declared by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) this evening.

Sukirat, a student of Edusquare, Dugri, was keeping a watch on his close competitor Simar Sachdeva, also daughter of a doctor couple, who has stood second with the rank 144.

“She was studying in a different institute. I am expecting a close competition from her,” said Sukirat, who had cracked the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS entrance) and got admission to AIIMS, Jodhpur. “I am satisfied with the score. Now, I will try to take admission to Maulana Azad Medical College in Delhi,” said Sukirat.

He said he used to spend nearly three hours on studies daily. “For constantly two years, I had made it a routine to devote three hours for preparing for the entrance test,” said Sukirat.

Simar, daughter of a psychiatrist, Dr JP Sachdeva, and Dr Harleen Sachdeva, has also cleared the AIIMS entrance test and got admission to AIIMS, Jodhpur.

Alumni of Sacred Heart Convent School, Sarabha Nagar, she had devoted nearly five or six hours for the preparation of the entrance test.

Unlike children of doctor couples who hate the medical stream due to the challenging routine of their parents, Sukirat and Simar drew inspiration from it. “Sometimes they have to rush in the middle of the night. Their personal life also takes a hit. All this motivated me as very few could selflessly devote their life for the service of humanity,” said Sukirat.

Simar wishes to becomes a neurosurgeon. She is looking forward to take admission to Lady Hardinge Medical College, New Delhi.

Simar said she faced some problem with the answer sheet during the entrance exam, otherwise she could have scored well and perhaps managed to take admission in AIIMS, New Delhi.
