Chandigarh, July 10
The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) may become the second institute in Chandigarh, after GMCH-32, to offer the MBBS course soon.
Following a proposal sent by Member of Parliament (MP) from Chandigarh, Kirron Kher, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare JP Nadda has directed the PGI, to place the proposal before their standing academic committee, standing finance committee and governing body for taking a decision.
The proposal will first now be placed in the standing academic committee meeting, which will be held within two months.
Kirron Kher had sent a letter to the former Health Minister Dr Harsh Wardhan.
She said that the demand raised by residents seemed to be genuine and she felt that the doctors trained in such an institute of repute would bring health services of the area at a new height. — TNS
