Special assembly
Chandigarh: A special morning assembly was conducted at Tribune Model School by teachers of kindergarten on the school premises. The assembly began with the blessings of the God, followed by a welcome song by the teachers. Children enjoyed aerobics on the occasion. Vandana Saxena, principal of the school, also interacted with the children and gave some tips on personal hygiene.
Talk on drug abuse
The Social Club of Sri Guru Harkrishan Senior Secondary Public School, Sector 40C, here, in association with the Social Welfare Association organised an effective talk on Drug Abuse and Importance of Discipline a burning issue. Jagmohan Sharda, senior member of the society, asked the students to deliver their duties in an effective way and to live a disciplined life. SK Khosla, general secretary, shared his views on drug abuse and it’s aftereffects that lead to crime and other social evils prevalent in society.
Founder’s day
Students of St John’s High School celebrated founder’s day with an assembly dedicated to a great human being, Blessed Edmund Ignatius Rice. The assembly began with thanking to the Almighty for this institution started by the Christian brothers. A poem was recited and a play was staged on the life of Blessed Edmund Rice, which highlighted the struggle he went through and how with the help of his brothers he formed a chain of schools.
Water Resources Day
The Eco Club of St Soldier International School, Sector 28B, celebrated Water Resources Day by presenting a skit on how to stop water pollution. A slogan writing competition was organised for classes III to IV. Eco Club head Anuradha gave a speech on ways to conserve water. The Eco Club also set up a herbal garden to familiarise students with biodiversity and inculcate a spirit of conservation.
Contests held
Social study teachers of Government Model High School, Sector 36D, held various competitions such as poetry, speech and slogan-writing. Students from Classes VI to X participated in the competitions with enthusiasm. In slogan writing, Anisha of Class XA stood 1st, Navjot of Class XB 2nd, Ravinder of Class IXA got 3rd and Ashutosh of Class X-B got the consolation prize. In speech, Saloni of Class XA stood 1st, Kuldeep of Class X-B 2nd, Sourabh of Class X-B 3rd and Tushar of Class IX-A got the consolation prize. In poetry, Saloni of Class X-A stood 1st, Ayesha of Class X-A 2nd, Sonia of Class IX-A 3rd and Anshul of Class VIII-A got the consolation prize. Headmaster Rakesh Sood distributed the prizes among the winners.
Investiture
Junior students of Class IV and V voted for their favourite contender during the investiture ceremony at Bhavan Vidyalaya Junior, Sector 33. The chief guest, PR Aggarwal, Secretary, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, and the guest of honour, Madhukar Malhotra, handed over the badges and sashays to the head boy and the head girl, said the principal of the school.
Visit to art museum
Students of St Joseph’s Senior Secondary School, Sector 44-D, went to an educational visit to Government Museum and Art Gallery, Sector 10. Accompanied by their teachers, members of the Science and Maths Club were enthralled by what all they saw and learnt from the visit. The students visited various sections of the museum.
Annual day celebrations
PANCHKULA: An impressive cultural event marked the annual day celebrations at Kendriya Vidyalaya, ITBP, Bhanu. Unity dance and qawwali won a huge applause. A Hindi skit, “Chai pani” based on the theme of rampant corruption in society, was full of humour and satire. Marathi folk dance and giddha enthralled the audience. Chief guests PS Papta and Madhu Singh Papta were accorded a warm welcome. Principal Sumati Dogra presented the annual report, while Madhu Singh Papta gave away the prizes to meritorious students.
Dental check-up camp
A team of doctors under the aegis of Clove Dental visited DC Model School, Sector-7, and told the students about the benefits of good oral health. The doctors demonstrated effective ways to defeat germs, gum care, correct brushing techniques and right eating habits. A power-point presentation was also shown to the students on health and hygiene in which tips such as proper brushing, use of floss, rinsing the mouth after every meal were given. They also advised students to visit the dentist regularly.
Press Freedom Day observed
MOHALI: An interactive session was held for the students of Ryan International School on the occasion of Press Freedom Day. The resource person enlightened the students about the importance of the day, process of printing of newspapers as well as criteria for selecting and publishing of various news items. The students put questions related to the press and journalism.
Mother’s Day celebrated
Mother’s Day was celebrated by the primary section of Doon International School. Students made cards for their mothers as a note of thanks for their devoted love.
Magic show
A magic show was organised at Shishu Niketan School for students of the primary wing. The magician dressed in black with a big hat enthralled the students with his tricks. — TNS
