State topper Mudita Bansal from Sacred Heart Convent Senior Secondary School, Sarabha Nagar, is on cloud nine. She has done the city proud by emerging topper in the state with 98.2 per cent marks (commerce stream) in the CBSE Class XII exams. It is after a gap of about three years that a student from the district has scored above 98 per cent marks in the Class XII CBSE exams.
In the results declared today, girls once again stole the limelight in the district by scoring the highest marks in all streams. Of a total five city toppers in the medical, non-medical, humanities and commerce streams, four are girls. Their proud parents are on cloud nine. They feel their daughters are no less than boys. Mudita Bansal, Navdeep Kaur, Simar Sachdeva and Jahnvi are the toppers in the commerce, non-medical, medical and humanities streams respectively.
The Principal of Nankana Public School, Harmeet Kaur, believes that there was a major reason for the girls securing better marks than boys. “Boys take everything casually. If their father has got a house, they would feel it is theirs only. They feel they are the heirs of their fathers' business/property etc and they don't have to make much efforts in studies to build a good career. But, girls think differently. They have an inborn urge to excel and to prove themselves. They know if they perform exceptionally well in studies, they will get future families accordingly, and they are very right in thinking so. They are intelligent, dedicated and work hard. It is so good to see girls performing so well in the exam,” said Harmeet Kaur.
A girl student, who has scored more than 93 per cent marks in humanities, said she had two sisters. Their relatives always “sympathised” with their parents for being blessed with daughters only. “But our parents have always encouraged and motivated us that we are no less than boys. There is a responsibility to meet the expectations of our parents and I will try hard to fulfil their dreams. Though there is no pressure, I want to change the mindset of society and it is high time that they must start believing in girls,” said the student.
