Students attend Thames Valley Summer School in London

A group of 10 students of Nankana Sahib Public School, Gill Road, attended the Thames Valley Summer School at Epsom College, Epsom, Surrey, England. These students represented India as there were around 200 students from 20 different countries of the world. The students attended the classes for spoken English and various activities like theatre, drama, ICT etc for two weeks. The camp began on 2nd July and continued till July 15. The spoken English classes were conducted by Thames Valley and later on the last day an oral exam was taken by Trinity. It was a Trinity certified course in which students secured good grades. The age group of the students was between 12 to 18 years. There were various levels of the exam. The students who participated were thrilled to be in England’s top school. The group was led by the school principal Harmeet Kaur Waraich. She said the programme was very useful and informative for the students.

Literary week

Literary week was celebrated at BVM School, Kitchlu Nagar. Students synthesised their imaginations and thoughts and created wonderful outcomes for poem recitation, story writing and other creative writing activities. Stuffed with practical common sense and intuitive insight the luminous works of the students from Class I to X was applauded by all. Students of Class IX & X participated wholeheartedly in Hindi creative writing on ‘Hindi Bhasha Meri Pehchaan’. In debate on usage of internet for students both the positive and negative impacts of internet were discussed widely by the students of Class IX and X. An imaginary world of success was introduced by students. Principal Neelam Mittar motivated the students and told them to unfold their hidden potentials and strive for the best.

Student bring laurels

Students BCM Senior Secondary School, Sector 32-A, Chandigarh Road, brought laurels by winning Mathematical Genius Award. Parv Chugh grabbed sixth rank at national level and first rank at state level. Principal DP Guleria appreciated the efforts of the students and said such type of exams should be conducted to promote the logical interpretation ability of the students.

Exhibition at Green Grove

A magnificent exhibition comprising of a range of posters, models, charts and other well-prepared items was held at Green Grove Public School.

It was not merely a display of decorated show pieces. Rather a splendid and practical view of the variety of stuff children learn in school be it in the form of theory, drawing, memorising facts etc.

The occasion was presided over by president JPS Jolly and graced by chairperson Satinderjeet Kaur Jolly. The exhibition was divided into different sections according to the subjects taught in school.

Kindergarten section displayed a great deal of creativity and showcased wall hangings, family albums, paper and real flower bouquets, ancient building structures, party masks of animals, national flags made using grains, beautiful and decorative piggy banks. Primary section also came up with really innovative ideas. They prepared items like charts describing village scene, greeting cards, landscapes, story description, paper bags, photo frames, models of input and output devices, models of a shopping bill, geometrical shapes, clocks, cosmetic boxes and scrap books. In the senior category, there was an exclusive range of models and charts. The language section included grammar charts, files, dictionaries, biographies of literary personalities, portraits and power-point presentations. Whereas in social science section, sublime models of volcanoes, equator, globe, major rivers and forests were put at display. The science section looked fabulous with models made of various body parts and their functioning, digestive system, blood circulation model, different chemical and chain reactions. Maths department too, had a lot to show. It had models on polygons, identity model, rules of congruence, volume of cylinder, factor tree, area of circle and triangle and biographies of some great mathematicians. Principal S George appreciated the event.

Tributes paid to martyrs

The students of Green Land Senior Secondary Public School, Jalandhar Bye Pass, paid homage to the martyrs of Kargil to commemorate the 16th Kargil Vijay Diwas. Two-minute silence was observed after a floral tribute while remembering the martyrs of Kargil. There upon, a poetry recitation competition in Hindi was organised for the students of Class VII and VIII in which students recited the patriotic poems. Poems such as ‘Kashmir Se Kargil Tak’, ‘Jai Jai Bharat Desh’, ‘Bhagat Singh’ and ‘Aaj Tiranga Feharta Hai’ were recited. The students lit candles and pledged to sacrifice their lives on the calling from nation. Principal Baldeep Pandher said we should not forget the sacrifices made by martyrs of the nation. We should respect the freedom brought by them and remain zealous to maintain it.The results of Hindi poetry recitation competition are as follows: Ananya of Class VIII from Keats House stood first, Guneet of Class VIII Keats House bagged second prize, Jaspreet Kaur of Class VIII Milton House and Avantika of Class VIII Pope House stood third. Manleen of Class VIII of Keats House & Chirag of Chaucer House got the consolation prize.

Museum visit

Students of Peace Public School visited the Museum of Rural History of Punjab, PAU. It was an endeavour to bring them in touch with the local ancient cultural heritage. Students cherished the moments they spent observing various artifacts & many other traditional equipments like Persian wheel, charkha, weaving machine, phulkari and many more. They were not mere onlookers rather they were all curious to know more and soak up that nostalgic atmosphere filled with ancient treasures. Cricket Club inaugurated

Guru Nanak Public School, Sarabha Nagar, inaugurated the GNPS Cricket Club on its campus in collaboration with Pace Cricket Academy. The school has made three marbled pitches measuring 12’ x 3’ feet each to enhance bowling and batting skills of the trainees. Regular matches will be arranged for the cricket trainees with teams of various other organisations to bring out the best in them. All rounder Karanveer Singh of Kings XI Punjab was the chief guest. He was accorded a floral welcome by the general secretary of the GNPS Committee Surinder Singh. Principal Mona Singh said with the setting up of the Cricket Club in school a long pending demand of the parents and students have been fulfilled. Karanveer’s presence was a source of encouragement for the students. Many officials of the Pace Cricket Academy were present on the occasion.

Plantation drive

To sensitise the importance of plants, a plantation drive was held at BVM, Shishu Vatika, Cemetery Road. Tiny tots sowed seeds with great vivacity and teachers told them to grow more plants to save the environment .Teachers also encouraged them to gift and grow plants on their birthday.

Graduation ceremony

Green Land Convent School, New Subhash Nagar, celebrated the graduation ceremony of KG Wing. Chairman of the Chain of Green Land School , Rajesh Rudhra presided over the function as chief guest along with other eminent guests Shabad Rudhra, president of the trust, Usha Rudhra, general secretary of the Trust. Parents of the students were special invitees. The ceremony began with a graduation song. It was followed by ‘Saraswati Vandana’. Tiny tots also presented a beautiful action dance to show their intense affection and gratitude for their parents. The budding scholars of pre-primary graduated to primary level who adorned themselves with graduation caps & gowns were full of vigour and enthusiasm. They received their graduation certificates amidst loud applause from the chairman of the school. The children also presented a series of colourful dance performances dedicated to Parents highlighting the blessings of parents on the children. A dance on “Save Animals, Save Forest, Save Earth” was also performed by the students as a part of the forth coming “Vanamahotsava Week” to be celebrated in the school. While addressing the parents, Rajesh Rudhra highlighted the importance and role of parents in the life of the kids and in pursuing their dreams. Principal Jyoti also congratulated the parents on the initial success of their children.

Rain dance, pool party

To beat the scorching heat of the month of July, a pool party and rain dance party was organised for the students of Kindergarten section of Tagore Public School. Tiny tots in their colourful dresses enjoyed in the pools splashing water and dancing on the peppy numbers played by DJ. The tiny tots jumped in and out of the pools. Their enthusiasm knew no bounds when the principal of the school D Narang and coordinators joined the students in their moments of enjoyment which is an integral part of school curriculum.— TNS
