Chandigarh: Students, staff and faculty of the Dr Ambedkar Institute of Hotel Management Catering and Nutrition, Sector 42, celebrated Lohri with joy and enthusiasm. They gathered around the bonfire in the evening to celebrate the harvest festival. They enjoyed every moment having gachak, rewari and peanuts. The bonfire was lit by Bharti Tyagi, principal of the institute.
Panjab University
Lohri was celebrated with traditional fervour at Panjab University. Students, research scholars, teachers and non-teaching staff members participated in celebrations organised at the Student Centre, various departments and hostels. On the occasion, PU Vice Chancellor Prof Arun Kumar Grover greeted the students, alumni and other stakeholders of the university.
Rayat-Bahra University
Mohali: Attired in traditional dresses, students and teachers of Rayat-Bahra University celebrated Lohri with enthusiasm on the university campus, here today. The students presented an exciting and enthusiastic show of their dances and songs on the occasion. Girls were dressed up in traditional Punjabi attires and danced to the tunes of Punjabi songs around the bonfire. Earlier, Dr SK Bansal, Vice-Chancellor of the university, and other dignitaries of the university lit the bonfire and congratulated the students and staff on the occasion. Gurvinder Singh Bahra, chairman of the Rayat-Bahra Group of Institutions, emphasised on woman empowerment and distributed sweets among the gathering.
Sri Sukhmani institutions
Dera Bassi: Students and faculty members of the Sri Sukhmani Institute of Engineering and Technology, Sri Sukhmani Polytechnic and Sri Sukhmani Hospitality Management, Dera Bassi, celebrated Lohri with traditional fervor enthusiasm and aplomb here this evening. Keeping the tradition of the festival alive, a bonfire was lit and ghiddha and other events were also organised by the students and the management. The students and staff also sang traditional Punjabi folk songs. Various fun games like peel the peanut, senior citizen race, malvai giddha and a special performance by the female staff and faculty were the main attractions of the celebration. Prof Avtar Singh and Kanwaljit Kaur, chairman and director of the institute, distributed groundnuts, rewari, gachak and sweets among the students and teachers.
GGS College of Modern Technology
Kharar: The GGS College of Modern Technology, Kharar, witnessed a reflection of rich culture and heritage of Punjab in the form of traditional songs and dance as the students and staff members of the college celebrated Lohri on the college campus. A huge bonfire was lit and a vibrant function was organised to mark the festivities. Chairman Surinder Pal Singh Sachdeva extended wishes to students and faculty members. — TNS
