Ludhiana, December 23
The district adminstration organised a voter awareness rally “Voter Jaago” to spread the message among people about the value of voting. Students of Government Model Senior Secondary School, PAU participated in it and roamed with the awareness message in varsity’s campus.
The awareness event was organised under SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) activities by the District Administration. Schoolchildren were told about the importance of voting, besides increasing the voting percentage.
The rally passed through the residential areas of Punjab Agricultural University, where the students carried placards and spoke slogans for making people know about the importance and need of voting.
Students urged people around to cast their vote in the upcoming Punjab Assembly Elections 2017.
Poonamdeep Kaur, Deputy Director Local Government cum Election Registration Officer, Ludhiana (West), while addressing the students said that India is the biggest democracy of the world, where people’s biggest strength is the right to vote.
She said that with this right, the people of India vote for their favourite candidates of their choice. She appealed to the students that they should urge their parents and people around them to cast their vote in the interest of the country.
Sanjiv Thapar, principal of the school accentuated the importance of voting while giving some examples of the US elections. He also put focus over the fact a collective decision through voting help us to elect a good leader not only for a nation but for ourselves as well.
