Ludhiana: The department of home science at Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, organised a two-day workshop on Table Setting, Dining Etiquettes and Napkin Folding. Focus was laid on formal, informal and buffet table setting, dining etiquettes and creative napkin folding. Roopa Pahwa, the resource person, International School of Etiquette Finishing Academy, held an informative and interactive workshop for the students of BA-I (HSc). Her willing disposition and practical approaches reinforced students in bringing about a transition in their personality. College Principal Dr Mukti Gill applauded the efforts put in by the department of home science and motivated them to plan more such events in future.

extension lecture

An extension lecture by Dr Kirpal Kazak of Punjabi University, Patiala, was organised by Punjabi Sahitya Sabha of GCG. Principal Mohinder Kaur Grewal presided over the function. The topic of the lecture was culture and folklore. Speaker Dr Kazak enlightened students regarding our rich culture, rituals and traditions. He further highlighted the role of women in Punjabi rituals. The vote of thanks was given by Paramjit Kaur, HOD Punjabi. Vice-Principal Sharanjit Kaur, Staff council and members of Punjabi department were also present.

Basant Panchami

GGN Institute of Management and Technology (GGNIMT), Civil Lines organised a fun- filled cultural event to celebrate the end of the winter season and to usher in the springtime, during the gala fiesta of Basant Panchami here today. The event began with the anchors- Chax Asees Singh of B Com IV semester highlighting the relevance of Vasant Panchami. The students clad in yellow attires, the sunny weather and wonderful ambience symbolised Basant, signifying brilliance of nature and the vibrancy of life. The students then displayed a magnificent cultural show that enthralled the audience to the peak. The vibrant girls of MBA IV and B com IV danced on Punjabi folk numbers displaying the rich heritage of Punjab during a Giddha performance. This was followed by the solo dance competition. As many as 30 students participated in event.

Expo at KCW

Gardening Club and Botanical Society of Khalsa College for women, Civil Lines, jointly organised an exhibition Cash the Trash emphasising the reuse of waste material like pipes, tyres, plastic bottles, coconut shells etc. This exhibition was put up to show innovative methods of gardening where the waste products were put into aesthetically attractive products. The concept of ‘’go green’’ was basically targeted as proper disposal of non-degradable waste has become a major area of concern. Keeping this in mind, this exhibition beautifully displayed the household waste items in the form of planters. —TNS
