Talent hunt
A talent hunt competition was organised at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 33. Students took part in face painting, tattoo making, nail art, rangoli making, singing and dancing, calligraphy, story telling and vest out of waste activities.
Seminar
Anuja Lath, CEO of RedAlkemi Online Pvt Ltd, conducted a seminar for students of Classes VIII to X at Tribune Model School, Sector 29. The seminar encouraged students to use web effectively and make their online web profiles for a better career growth.
No Tobacco Day
No Tobacco Day was observed with enthusiasm at PML SD Public School, Sector 32. A special assembly was held by students of Class XII. NSS volunteers gave speeches stressing the need for a tobacco and smoke-free world. Students even highlighted facts associated with the consumption of tobacco.
Shishu Niketan
A seminar on ill-effects of tobacco was organised by Shishu Niketan Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 22-D, Chandigarh, in collaboration with the Sahayta Charitable Welfare Society. NSS volunteers actively participated in the seminar. Principal Amita Khorana said such seminars were the need of the hour as a large number of youngsters were hooked to tobacco. A presentation by Dr Sarhinda highlighted terrible effects of tobacco. Students as well as other employees of the schools took an oath of spreading awareness against its consumption.
Special assembly marks Labour Day
A special morning assembly was organised at KBDAV School by students of Saral Ahsaas, a parallel school being run for underprivileged children from Bapu Dham Colony, on the occasion of Labour Day. A prayer marked the beginning of the assembly followed by poetry recitation and speeches by students.
Blood donation camp
A blood donation camp was organised at Hansraj Public School, Panchkula. Like previous years, the camp, organised with the help of the department transfusion medicine, PGI, Chandigarh, was a great success. As many as 139 units of blood were collected.
Students plant saplings
Sri Sukhmani International School, Dera Bassi, Mohali, organised a botanical garden activity for students of Classes IX-XII. Science teachers Vibha Arora, Anita Rana, Ranjula Thakur and Jaswinder Kaur explained about various medicinal plants and the importance of growing plants. The students also planted some saplings under the supervision of their teachers and school gardener. The aim of the activity was to make the students aware about the environment conservation. School principal Poonam Sharma motivated the students to plant at least one sapling on their birthday. —TNS
