Teej celebrated at Oak Grove School

The traditional festival of Teej was celebrated with fervour and gaiety at the girls’ wing of Oak Grove School here yesterday. The function was inaugurated jointly by M Sanju Pandey and Tanuja Joshi, Headmistress of Oak Grove Girls’ School by lighting the ceremonial lamp.
Staff and their family members danced on the Teej traditional song “papeha bolaa baag mein, sawaaan aoyoo re....”. Ladies with their respective partners and friends made beautiful designs of mehandi on their hands. Shrawan singing competition marked the performance of many ladies who sang beautiful songs. The ‘jhulha songs’ at the festival were a source of attraction. A stall of eatables was also put up in the school.
Sanju Pandey, while speaking on the occasion, said by participating in such traditional festivals we stay connected to our rich culture, traditions and heritage. Tanuja Joshi said, “The Teej festival marks the significance of monsoon and is dedicated to Goddess Parvati and her union with Lord Shiva.” Women sang ‘lok geet’ and made the environment melodious. Giddha, nrityas and folk dance of Punjab made the occasion more colorful and lively.
Amita Srivastava, Headmistress Oak Grove Junior School, Heena Dhobal, ADMO, Oak Grove School, Isha Joshi, M Durgesh Nandini, Nidhi Saxena, Mukta Yadav, Mrs Anjali Dube, Rekha Sangal, Kusum Kamboj, Ms Archana Shankar and Kanchan Sharma were present on the occasion.
