Thapar varsity, Videocon Telecom ink pact
Patiala: A MOU has been signed between Thapar University, Patiala, and Quadrant Televentures Limited (QTL), known as Videocon Telecom, for setting up a lab in advanced communication technology. This advanced communication lab will be equipped with latest technologies, GSM live BTS (Base Transceiver Station), CDMA live BTS (Base Transceiver Station), ATM-based DSLAM and antennas. Equipment worth Rs 25 lakh have been offered by the QTL for setting up the lab on the university premises. Dr RS Kaler, deputy director, said: “This Lab will improve technical skills of faculty and students by providing up-to-date technology development training and hands-on experience of live technologies. Hence, students will have better technical understanding”. Kamal Gulati, additional vice-president of Videocon Telecom and Connect Broadband, said: “We have taken this initiative to ensure closer coordination with one of the most prestigious technology universities in the region.” Dr Surbhi Sharma, assistant professor and principal coordinator, Thapar University, emphasised on the importance of exposing students to latest technological developments taking place around the globe. — TNS
