The inaugural show of the musical and theatre spectacle 'The Golden Era of Balwant Gargi'- a veritable tribute to commemorate the 100th year of the theatrical genius and prominence of legendary thespian was held at Chandigarh University auditorium in Gharuan today.

Hailed as one of the leading pioneer architect of modern Punjabi theatre, Balwant Gargi had taken it to a spectacular level. Inspired by the fact that drama is a complete art and the elements of music, poetry, prose, acting are pervasive therein and also that any form of art lives in traditions but survives through innovation, the acclaimed academician, litterateur and theatre personality Dr Atamjit and the versatile music composer virtuoso Atul Sharma teamed up to experiment and evolve 'Theatre Music' as a separate genre after a deep study.      The programme commenced as Dr Atamjit introduced the very concept of the presentation which includes the study of Gargi and his literary works at intellectual-level at emotional plane and at the stage of soul.   Later, the stage turned into a musical and theatre extravaganza, where excerpts from three famous three plays written by Balwant Gargi were enacted by team of artistes lead by Dr Atamjit Singh.—TNS
