Over 84 per cent of the total candidates appeared for various tests at the Panjab University-Common Entrance Test (CET) Under Graduate at various colleges and the PU campus here today.
PU Controller of Examinations Prof Parvinder Singh said 13,704 students appeared for Physics, 13,678 appeared for chemistry, 7,023 appeared for biology, 7,238 appeared for mathematics, 178 appeared for biotechnology and 713 students appeared for computer science tests.
He said PU security staff were also trained on how to guide candidates, which resulted in curbing traffic snarls despite a large influx of the candidates.
As many as 16,699 students had applied for 404 open seats for different undergraduate courses of the PU under CET (UG), which is 11 per cent over the previous year. Last year, 14,964 students had applied for CET (UG). Students appeared for physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, biotechnology and computer science tests at 50 examination centres in colleges of the city and on the PU campus.
