Nearly 400 students study in Class IX to XII, the only classes the school offers. The admission to the school is through an exam.

Tosham Block Education Officer (BEO), school in charge Narender Yadav said students were forced to carry their own water bottles from homes as school water tank had been empty. “The toilets stink and foul smell emanating from them poses a risk of students and members of staff getting infected,” he said.

Scores of students go outside the school to drink water and relieve themselves in fields, sources said.

Students Parveen and Sachin said their studies had been affected as there was no lighting in classrooms. “It is difficult to study in the open because of heat,” Parveen said.

Narender Singh, a parent, said his son had worked hard to get into the school. “First, studies were affected following paucity of staff and, now, snapping of electricity supply has made matters worse,” he said.

Preeti Sharma, a member of the staff, said the higher authorities had been apprised of the situation, but to no avail.

The BEO said he was trying to solve the problems and brought the matter to the notice of the department. “I am waiting for its response,” he added.
