A unity run was organised at Government High School, Sector 24-A. Students of primary and upper primary classes spread the message of living in the country with love, respect and unity. Teacher Sophia Hardy addressed the students for the unity of the country.

Annual day

Students of Classes VI to X at the AKSIPS-45, Chandigarh, presented a play, “Being Human-Ek Nazariya, during the school’s annual day function at Tagore Theatre. The event commenced with the lighting of the lamp by chief guest NS Manhas, Programme Head, Doordarshan, Chandigarh. Principal Harpreet Kaur read the annual report, highlighting various achievements of the school. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by BNS Walia, Chairman, National Educational Development Trust.

Pot decoration

A pot-decoration competition was held at Adarsh Public Smart School, Sector 20-B. Students of Class V took part in the activity. The children showed their creativity in a unique way. Principal SThakur appreciated efforts of the students.

Students bring laurels to school

The District SQAY Association of Sonepat held the 9th Junior and Senior Haryana State SQAY Championship and the 8th Sub-Junior SQAY Cup at Shambhu Dayal Shiksha Sadan Senior Secondary School, Khanda, Sonepat. Three participants from The British School, Panchkula, won accolades in the championship. Charvi Jain of Class IX won the gold and a bronze medal. Tarushi Gaur of Class II won a gold medal and Aahaan Joshi of Class II won the bronze. Pushkar Mittal of Class VI was honoured for his performance in cricket by Haryana Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kanwar Pal Gujjar at the cricket stadium, Sector 16, Chandigarh. He was declared the best upcoming player. Principal Anita Mehra congratulated the students and encouraged them to work hard with determination to achieve their goals. 

Traffic Awareness Week

DPS World School, Zirakpur, observed Traffic Awareness Week on its campus. The aim was to educate students about the traffic rules. Students were given live demonstrations. Students were also told about road signs. On the concluding day, they visited Traffic Park, Panchkula. Traffic officials instructed the children about safety measures. 

Anti-cracker rally

An anti-cracker drive was launched at Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 44-B, to create awareness among the staff and students about ill-effects of crackers. Students actively participated in the campaign and promised to shun crackers and celebrate an eco-friendly Diwali. 

GMSSS-16

A week-long anti-cracker awareness campaign was organised by the Acacia Eco-Club of Government Model Senior Secondary School (GMSSS), Sector 16-D. The campaign kicked off with students taking an oath of not bursting crackers on Diwali. It was followed by an inter-house poster making and slogan-writing competition. Later, the students took out an anti-cracker rally. An inter-house poem and essay-writingcompetition was also organised. The prize winning students recited their poems and essays in the assembly. Saplings of medicinal plants were also distributed by the school eco-club.

New India Smart Senior Secondary School

Students of New India Smart Senior Secondary School, Sector 15, Panchkula, took out an anti- cracker rally. Around 450 students participated in the rally. In the rally,virtues of celebrating the festival were highlighted by the students. The rally was flagged off by principal Sharda Gupta. She encouraged the students to celebrate Diwali by lightening candles and diyas instead of bursting crackers.

Ashmah International School

Ashmah International School, Mohali, organised an anti-cracker rally. Students as well as residents were educated about ill-effects of crackers. They carried placards, spreading awareness of the issue. The students also staged a street play. The anti-cracker rally was flagged off by school director JS Kesar. He urged the students to take the message not only to their families but also to their neighbours and adjoining colonies. Pamphlets were distributed throughout the city to promote the anti-cracker movement. The students went to various parts of the city, holding banners and denouncing the use of crackers.

Diwali celebrated

Government Middle School, Sector 26, Bapu Dham Colony, organised different activities to mark Diwali. School in-charge Manjit Singh asked students not to burst crackers and made them aware about their ill-effects, An exhibition, “Deepotsav 2016”, was organised where students displayed diyas, candles, glass paintings, artificial flowers and other creative works. 

CRB Public School

Students and the staff of CRB Public School, Sector 7-B, celebrated Diwali with great pomp and show. Students took part in a rangoli-making competition. They decorated candles and diyas. Some of them made greeting cards for near and dear ones. The children of the kindergarten wing came to the school in traditional outfits.

GHS-50

Students participated in various activities during a Diwali fest, organised at Government High School (GHS), Sector 50. Renu Gupta, a scientist with the Bureau of Indian Standards, spoke on consumer awareness. Students of Classes VI to X participated in a rangoli-making, drawing, slogan-writing, diya and candle decoration and best out of waste contests. School headmistress Jasbir Kaur inaugurated the programme. An anti-cracker rally was also organised. The headmistress flagged off the rally. Students of Classes IX and X participated in the rally. 

GHS-Dadu Majra 

Government High School (GHS), Dadu Majra, celebrated Diwali with great enthusiasm. Students decorated diyas and candles with colours and glitters. Rangoli and greeting-card making competitions were also held. A classroom decoration campaign was also initiated. The dtudents decorated their classrooms with colourful papers, posters, balloons and frills. Headmistress Lovleen Kaur wished a happy and safe Diwali to all students and the staff.

Blue Bird High School

On the occasion of Diwali, students of Blue Bird High School, Panchkula, spread the message of saving the environment by celebrating an eco- friendly Diwali. Inter-house rangoli, pot painting, diya and candle-decoration competitions were organised. The school was beautifully decorated on the occasion. The programme started with a speech. Tiny tots of the junior wing decorated earthen lamps. They recited poems. Students of the senior wing conveyed their message through slogans. 

St Soldier School

The festival of lights was celebrated by studesnts and the faculty of St Soldier School, Mohali, by visiting Gur Asra Trust, an orphanage. They distributed sweets and clothes among the inmates. They also donated money to the orphanage. Students of junior wing decorated diyas while the toddlers coloured candles and diyas. All corridors of the school wore a festive look. 

Gem Public Senior Secondary School

Students of Gem Public Senior Secondary School, Mohali, celebrated the festival of lights with fervour. They came to the school wearing fancy dresses. Diya decoration, candle decoration, e-card and rangoli-making competitions were organised on the occasion. A special assembly was organized, in which the students were apprised of the importance of the festival. Class X girls presented a dance. 

Holy Wonder Smart School

Holy Wonder Smart School, Mohali, celebrated Diwali by spreading a message against the use of crackers. Students were educated about the ill-effects of crackers. An inter-house exhibition of handicrafts was organised. Through the exhibition, the students tried to convey the message that the festival could be celebrated in varied ways. An idol of Lord Ganesha was placed in the school.

Karan Public School

A plethora of activities were held to celebrate Diwali at Karan Public School, Ward No. 20, Panchkula. The children of the junior wing visited the Sisters of Charity in Sector 23 to celebrate the festival with children there. Students of Classes VI to VIII participated in a rangoli-making competition. Students gathered in the assembly hall and watched a short play based on the Ramayana. 

Mount Litera Zee School

Mount Litera Zee School, Panchkula, celebrated Diwali with great enthusiasm. In order to enhance creativity and unleash the hidden potential of students, the school organised a rangoli-making competition for Classes VI to X and diya decoration competition for Classes I to V. School chairman Narinder Singla appreciated the creativity displayed by the students. — TNS
