A valedictory function was held amid much fervour, joy and jubilation for a seven-day NSS camp that started at SCD Government College on December 25.
Ludhiana Mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria presided over the function. He was accorded a warm welcome by NSS volunteers, who sang songs, danced and presented a skit on eve-teasing. Prof Nishi read the report of activities and the project undertaken during the seven-day camp. These included a cleanliness drive in and around the college campus, a poster-making competition on Swachh Bharat, Drug Abuse and a slogan-writing competition on Drug Abuse and Women Emancipation. A rally was also carried out to sensitised the public opinion on these burning issues. Chief Guest and Principal Dr Dharam Singh Sandhu awarded mementoes to the best NSS volunteers and core group team of boys and girls. Adisha Gupta and Munish Singh Bains, president of girls and boys NSS wing, respectively, were also awarded.
The chief guest said such schemes as NSS boost national spirit and develop harmony, cooperation and integration of interest leading to a positive change in the society.
NSS camp
A seven-day NSS Camp was held at Devki Devi Jain Memorial College for Women under the guidance of programme officers Ekta Batra and Ankita Jain. The camp was inaugurated on December 25 by the college Principal Dr Santa Bahi. She urged volunteers to come forward to serve the society. On the second day a lecture on traffic rules and social evils was delivered by Sukhdev Singh, in charge of the Education Cell. A rally on Swachh Bharat was taken out and a poster-making competition was also held to spread the awareness among the masses. Volunteers participated in various cultural programmes and were given prizes. Ginni, Sheena, Reena, Kashish and Secnam were adjudged as Best Volunteers for their services in the camp.
Placement drive
As many as 48 students were shortlisted by a bank on Rs 3 lakh per annum during a pool campus placement drive held at RIMT Group of Institutes. Dr Hukam Chand Bansal congratulated the selected students. — TNS
