In an indication that the Punjab government is keen to expose its school students to Vedic mathematics at a larger scale, the Education Department proposes that all mathematics teachers deputed in Punjab schools should be trained for higher difficulty levels in Vedic maths.
Sources said in a draft plan prepared for the coming academic session, which the department is all set to submit to ministry of Human Resources and Development, the former had sought financial help to prepare and publish the modules, which would be distributed among all 6,000 math teachers and aid them to further teach Vedic mathematics to the students.
The state government had already organised first-level training of schoolteachers for Vedic maths from October to December last year.
“We want all our teachers to get level-II training in the coming academic session, that too before the end of July. This will help us to effectively teach students Vedic maths problems of higher difficulty next session,” said an officer.
Education Minister Daljit Singh Cheema had even defended the department’s decision to introduce the “controversial” subject in Punjab schools citing that it would help students solve mathematical problems easily and rapidly.
