Chandigarh, September 8
“Student council is of the students and it should be run by the students”. With this message, PUSU registered a clean sweep in the Panjab University Campus Student Council elections yesterday. This was stated by PUSU president Satwinder Singh Naval, the man behind the party and its alliance partners’ win.
Just a fortnight ago, Naval was released on bail. The police had registered a case against him for involvement in a firing incident that took place on the university campus in April this year.
After he was released, he campaigned for the elections highlighting how political bigwigs were harassing students and pressurising the authorities to register a false case against a student leader, who is a gold medallist of the department, Naval said.
PUSU alliance supporters shared Naval’s personnel experience with PU students during campaigning. They went to the departments that have recorded less voting percentage in the past and convinced the students to exercise their voting right.
Giving credit to the alliance leaders and supporters, Naval said, “We all fought for students’ rights this year.”
