A day-long workshop on e-Granthalaya, an automated web-based library management software, was organised at GGM Science College here by the Higher Education Department in collaboration with the National Informatics Centre (NIC), Jammu.
Organised with the aim to provide the best library automation solutions, the workshop was conducted by a team comprising NIC officials, including Ram Kumar Matoria, Technical Director, NIC, New Delhi, and Saleem Khan from NIC, Jammu centre.
In his address, college principal Ajeet Angral stressed the significance of the library automation system in government colleges of the Jammu division.
RK Matoria, resource person, explained about the state-of-the-art e-Granthalaya which was developed by NIC using the latest technology and open source tools. He added that more than 4,000 libraries of various state and Central government organisations were automated by using this software.
An interactive session was also conducted wherein the participants drawn from the various colleges of the the Jammu division raised their queries which were clarified by NIC officials.
The workshop was attended by the library staff and computer science faculty of around 25 colleges of the division. While Prof Vinus Sharma, HoD, Department of Computer Science of GGM Science College, Jammu, gave a brief introduction, the workshop concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof Rahul Sharma.
