Chandigarh: The NSS unit of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 38 (West), here, celebrated World Health Day on the school premises on Tuesday. Students were given information on good health and food safety through interactive sessions followed by a quiz contest. While interacting with the volunteers, Rakesh Dahiya said each year, a theme is selected for World Health Day, which highlights a priority area of public health concern in the world. The theme for 2015 is “Food Safety” under the slogan “from farm to plate, make food safe.” Ritu Lakhanpal, English lecturer, Surjit Kaur, History lecturer, Sewa Singh, and Physical Education lecturer also addressed the gathering and motivated the students to live a healthy life.

Talk on healthy food

World Health Day was observed at DAV Public School, Sector 8C, here, on Tuesday. A talk on “healthy and hygienically clean food” for junior students and a poster-making competition on “safe food, safe life” for senior students were conducted on the occasion. The aim of the activity was to spread awareness among the young generation about maintaining healthy living standards, drinking clean water, eating fresh food, washing of hands, etc. School principal Jaskiran Harika encouraged the children and emphasised on practicing these healthy habits in daily routine.

Workshop held

Vivek High School, Sector 38, here, organised a course workshop on mindfulness for the faculty under the guidance of Karma Yeshe Rabgye, a Western Buddhist monk in the Kagyu tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. The workshop emphasised on the Visual, Auditory and Kinesthetic (VAK) ways of learning. The course included four sessions and a practice workshop on mindfulness of thoughts, emotions, body and communication. The monk taught the participants the significance of art of speech and listening and labeling of thoughts. The Lama, who freely offers teachings in a manner that is unpretentious and clear, also shared with the teachers the importance of being mindful and how it can be carried to the classrooms, thereby making the students being present in the class.

Parents briefed about school curriculum

Saupin’s School, Sector 32, here, organised an orientation programme for Classes I to X. During the programme, teachers explained the parents about the new learning process, methods and techniques applied to make teaching more effective for academic session 2015-16. The parents were briefed about the school curriculum, assessment schedule, scholastic and co-scholastic activities. They were apprised of the introduction of new tools through a power-point presentation. The teachers sought the cooperation from the parents in shaping and grooming the personality of their children.

Special assembly

Mohali: To mark the beginning of the new session, a special assembly was organised at AKSIPS-65. Besides the regular prayer, school song, headlines, thought for the day and drill, students also spoke on how to be disciplined on the school campus. The administrator of the AKSIPS Group of Schools, Sidhant Kalra, addressed the gathering and welcomed the students. Director-Principal Jasmine Kalra presented badges to the newly appointed coordinators for different wings.

Orientation programme

An orientation programme for parents of nursery class students was organised at Edustar Adarsh School, Kalewal village. The session began with the welcoming of parents by Pre-Primary coordinator Lakhvir Kaur. She shared with the parents the division of syllabus and name of the themes taught at the school. The teachers showed various examples of practical teaching to the parents. Anu Sharma, principal of the school, emphasised the role of parents in shaping their children, especially in the crucial years of their growth.

Interactive sessions

Panchkula: Bhavan Vidyalaya organised an orientation programme for Class LKG to Class II. Interactive sessions were held where teachers told the parents how learning becomes more interesting with the help of new techniques and methods. Parents also cleared their doubts about the school and its teaching methodologies. Parents were given handouts regarding the Bhavan learning system, school norms, policies and rules and regulations. Staff of the school welcomed all parents and students for the new academic session.

Healthy tiffin competition

SMD Little Champ Smart School celebrated World Health Day. On this occasion, a healthy tiffin competition was organised and students were encouraged to say “no to junk food”. Display boards were also decorated on the given theme.

Innovative dishes prepared

Doon Public School, Sector 21, observed World Health Day on the school campus. Students brought nutritious tiffins comprising fruits, salad and sprouts. The Meal Planning Club also came up with their innovative dishes prepared for the occasion. — TNS
