Fazilka, May 25
The career of students pursuing diploma courses in six streams at a private polytechnic institute in Jalalabad town of Fazilka district “hangs in balance”.
According to available data, 69 students from in and around Jalalabad took admission in six different streams of three-year diploma course in Jeevan Jyoti Polytechnic College, Jalalabad, three years ago in 2013.
Punjab Youth Congress General Secretary Jagdeep Kamboj “Goldy” addressing a press conference here today alleged that students were cheated in alleged connivance with the Punjab State Board of Technical Education and Industrial Training.
He maintained that at the time of admission of 69 students the college did not have the mandatory approval of the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE).
College chairman Malkeet Singh and Principal Subhash Singh confirmed that the issue of approval for the 2013-14 academic session was pending and they had apprised the students of the fact, but they had a valid permission for admission by the Punjab Board.
After every six months’ semester, the students are issued the Detailed Marks Card (DMC) by the board. After three years, 30 students out of the 69 enrolled took examination of the last and the sixth semester upon “completion” of their diploma recently by the board.
Kamboj alleges that the institute authorities cheated the students of lakhs as they allegedly managed exams through the board without having approval of the AICTE at the time of admission.
On the other hand, the institute management and the principal maintain that the examination of the students were conducted by the board in an appropriate manner and their qualification will be valid and they will be entitled for all jobs and further studies. Chairman Malkeet Singh denied any scam. — OC
