Chandigarh: The physical education department of MCM DAV College for Women organised a workshop on yoga and lifestyle diseases on Tuesday. Dr Mohinder Singh, Principal, Government College of Yoga and Health Education, sensitised the participants to the rising incidence of lifestyle diseases and the role of yoga in checking it. The workshop, attended by over 200 students from different colleges around Chandigarh, saw demonstration of yogasannas for diseases like obesity, cervical, back pain, skin problems and stress.
Honour for ex-Dean
The Association of Pharmacy Professionals has conferred the title of eminent pharmacist-2016 on Panjab University Emeritus professor and former PU Dean University Instructions (DUI) Prof SK Kulkarni. Prof Kulkarni was honoured during the 5th International Convention held at the Anna University, Tiruchirapalli (Trichy), Tamil Nadu, on January 22 and 23. He is teaching at the University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS).
Seminar held
A two-day national seminar on the theme, Management for Sustainable Development in 21st Century, concluded at the Government College of Commerce and Business Administration, Sector 50, on Tuesday. PU Vice-Chancellor Prof Arun Kumar Grover was the chief guest for the valedictory function. Speaking on the occasion, the VC said the current issue of smart cities and sustainability required inputs, discussions and deliberations from all sections of society.
Students-run NGO celebrates founder’s day
Helping Hand, an NGO run by students of Post Graduate Government College, Sector 11, celebrated its founder’s day on the college premises. The NGO awarded the college students for doing social work at various levels. The programme saw a number of cultural items in which D-Phoenix Dance Group and Swastik Band performed. Speaking on the occasion, college Principal Dr JK Sehgal said the habit to contribute towards the society should be an integral part of learning. He lauded the efforts of the students for their service to the unprivileged ones.
New ABVP office-bearers
The ABVP announced the office-bearers of its Chandigarh unit on Tuesday. Prof Rajan Bhandari, a lecturer at DAV College, has been appointed as the secretary of the city unit while the posts of vice-president went to Manoj Koshik, Swaraj Sidhu, Sukhdev Bahoria, Mohit Verma. Agam Choudary, Shiv, Rashmeet Singh, Sakshi and Atul have been appointed as joint secretaries. Chandigarh organising secretary Sourabh Kapoor made the announcements.
Campaign for cause of women concludes
The second day of ‘One Billion Rising’, a call to end violence against women, saw events being organised at Post Graduate Government College, Sector 46, and the Sector 17 Plaza. Conceptualised by Dr Jyoti Seth and the Sanjh Jagori team, the incredible presentations at five different locations in the city over the two days contributed in the success of the campaign. — TNS
