Dehradun, November 30
The U Turn Foundation, a group of students involved in activities for preserving the environment, has collaborated with schools in Dehradun to start an environment education programme (EEP). It has adopted Police Modern School in the city with an aim to involve schoolchildren in environment protection activities.
SSP Ajay Rautela started the first phase of sapling plantation and beautification of Police Modern School by adopting a plant. Schoolchildren, teachers and volunteers of the foundation's youth volunteer wing Green Force participated in the plantation drive. Schoolchildren adopted plants and took a pledge to look after them. The volunteers of the Green Force used the occasion to make students aware about the welfare of plants.
“At a time when children are disconnected from nature, the U Turn Foundation recognises the importance of imparting environment education and outdoor learning to them. Further, the foundation plans to introduce an environment education curriculum by way of guest lectures, a plantation drive and introductory knowledge on soil conservation,” said Jaya L Kumar, vice-president of the foundation. Rahul Rawat, Rakesh Pandey, Nidhi Aswal, Gaurav Harhariya, Anchal Bisht, Deepanjli Sharma and Diksha Negi coordinated the events today.
