Ex-MLC among 4 acquitted in 2006 Chopra murder case

A local court let off a former National Conference MLC and three other persons on Monday in the infamous Chopra murder case of 2006 in which five members of a family were killed in what was suspected to be a case of business rivalry.
“The court today acquitted four persons—former MLC Tarlochan Singh Wazir, his brother Ajaib Singh, Nagar Singh and Raju Simblia,” senior advocate PN Raina who represented the MLC said.
Principal session and district Judge RK Jain passed the order.
Raina said that the two other accused in the case, Ninju and Sangram Singh of Madhya Pradesh, have been convicted. The quantum of their sentence would be pronounced on February 5.
On the nigh intervening September 17 and 18, 2006, five people, including cement tycoon Raju Chopra, his wife Madhu Chopra, daughter Saloni, driver Jagan and helper Sonu, were murdered in what was then believed to be a case of business rivalry.
The Special Investigation Team constituted to probe the case had arrested the four persons, including the NC leader, in connection with the case.
Another Jammu-based contractor Nagar Singh, who was in prison for fudging evidence in a murder case, was also named as accused for conspiring to kill Chopra and his family. — PTI
