Chandawali village in the district has achieved a unique distinction by installing CCTV cameras.
“The panchayat worked overtime to install 72 cameras. Of them, 48 cameras will remain online round the clock and the rest will be recording the footage uninterrupted. The footage can be accessed till a period of 21 days,” said Anju Yadav (22), sarpanch of the village.
Hanif Qureshi, Commissioner of Police (CP), Faridabad, claimed, “Chandawali is the first village in the state to have installed CCTV cameras.”
He said all villages in the district would have CCTV cameras under ‘Operation Sanjay’, while all public places in the city were likely to be covered by next March.
Anju, one of the youngest sarpanches in the district, had promised to install cameras in her election manifesto. “CCTV coverage will instil confidence among women and girls. Now, they can move in the village without fear,” said the sarpanch, a postgraduate in Hindi.
