A five-day women workshop on moral, spiritual and social aspects commenced at Gayatri Shantikunj today. About 100 women representatives from 16 districts of Uttar Pradesh are taking part in the workshop.
Addressing the representatives, spiritual ideologue and senior women wing member of Gayatri Shantikunj Mata Bhagwati Devi Sharma said, “In women lies the onus of inculcating moral, spiritual and patriotic traits in their children and eventually society.”
She urged them to generate awareness among society over social malpractices, such as female foeticide, dowry and child marriage. “A mother is the first teacher of every child and plays a vital role in shaping family and society. Women need to take this responsibility of making society free of such evils. Its quite ironical that in this age of Wi-Fi technology and fast dissemination of information, we still have not been able to eradicate social evils by generating mass awareness,” she said. According to her, from the ancient era to Independence movement, women have been taking active part in shaping the society and country.
Senior member Shefali Pandey said women also need to stand up on their own feet. “Various skill-based training programmes are being run by Shantikunj through which thousands of women have been made self dependent,” she added.
Social activists Dr Gayatri Shamra, Indra Mishra, Bharati Nagar, Dr Sulochana Sharma and Padma Desai also addressed the women representatives in various sessions on the inaugural day.
