The Patiala police have failed to make any headway into the Patiala robbery even though 11 months have passed since the incident. Three armed men had allegedly shot a bank guard and stolen Rs 36 lakh from a State Bank of Patiala van in Nabha.

Senior police officers have confirmed that they had reopened the case for investigation. Sources confirmed the case was not handled properly by the Nabha police. Nabha Deputy Superintendent of Police Sewa Singh Malhi said they started the investigation two days ago.

On February 1 at 1.05 pm, three armed men shot bank guard Randhir Singh and injured a bank cashier Anurag Tiwari when they were loading an ATM with cash. The turbaned men took the cash and fled on a motorcycle. The police had registered a case under sections pertaining to robbery, murder and attempt to murder against the unidentified accused.

Sources said the police had been unable to crack the case despite having access to a CCTV footage of the crime.

The then police team in Patiala had repeatedly claimed they would solve the crime soon, but the police remained clueless.

“We have got some clues that certain youths could be involved in the robbery, but they have fled from their houses,” claimed senior police officers in March.
