Sixteen teams from top law universities of India will be participating in the national rounds of ‘The Eighth Leiden Sarin International Air Law Moot Court Competition’ scheduled to be held at the Army Institute of Law on Saturday.
The first seven chapters of the competition were held in New Delhi, Dubai, Istanbul, Abu Dhabi, Bucharest Romania, Beijing and Jakarta. The competition last year saw over 22 countries battling for the fully-paid scholarship for advanced LLM in Air and Space Law at Leiden University. The competition is scheduled to be inaugurated by Justice Ajay Kumar Mittal of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
This year’s case on air law is expected to raise legal issues concerning countries and people around the globe. The moot court will be judged by 30 different judges, including Justice MMS Bedi, Justice Ajay Tewari, Justice Augustine George Masih, Justice Ritu Bahri, Justice Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia, Justice Jaishree Thakur, Justice Amit Rawal, Justice Anupinder Singh Grewal and Justice K Kannan (Retd).
ML Sarin, Secretary General of the Sarin Memorial Legal Aid Foundation, said the finals would be held in Valletta, Malta, from April 6 to April 9. Teams from 20 countries — India, Nepal, the USA, Australia, Indonesia, China, the Netherlands, Canada, Ukraine, New Zealand, Romania, Sri Lanka, Nigeria, Serbia, Poland, the UAE, Singapore, Greece, South Korea and France — would compete for the laurels. Moot Co-ordinator Nitin Sarin said Leiden-Sarin International Air Law Moot Court was a pioneering event founded by the Sarin Memorial Legal Aid Foundation and Leiden University, the Netherlands. It was the only moot court competition in the world on air law, he said.
