17-year-old medical aspirant commits suicide in Sec 35

Chandigarh, July 28

A 17-year-old medical aspirant committed suicide by hanging himself at a paying guest (PG) accommodation in Sector 35.

According to the police, the victim, identified as Abhimanyu, hailed from Solan in Himachal Pradesh and was taking coaching in the city.

A police official said the victim was believed to have taken the extreme step due to the pressure of studies. “The victim had returned to Chandigarh two days ago. His father had scolded him for his non-serious attitude towards studies,” said the police official.

The victim was seen hanging by a PG worker, who used to give food to the PGs. The police were informed about the suicide. They rushed the victim to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. His parents were informed about the incident, who rushed to the city. The body was handed over to the family without a postmortem as the victim’s parents did not want to get a postmortem conducted.

Police sources said no suicide note was found from the victim’s room. The police questioned other PGs regarding the suicide.

Inquest proceedings have been initiated by the Sector 36 police.
