Zirakpur, April 19
Sohan Singh Thandal, Tourism Minister, Punjab, today said that Chhatbir Zoo was undergoing a major revamp in terms of facilities for visitors. “The need of the hour is to have a theme-based entrance, which should be able to build curiosity among visitors,” he added. The minister also launched a mobile app to provide information about tourist places.
He was here to review various development works undergoing at a cost of Rs 6 crore at Chhatbir Zoo. “A nature interpretation centre is also being set up at the zoo for imparting knowledge about the nature and wildlife to visitors,” The minister said.
Speaking on the occasion, Thandal said the Punjab Government would spend Rs 300 crore for the promotion of tourism in the state.
He exuded the confidence that all development works at the zoo will be completed in time. Thandal said a new canteen was also being constructed to reduce solid waste. He further added that keeping in view the increasing number of tourists, more shelters would be provided at the zoo.
The government was committed to preserve of the rich heritage of the state, the minister added.
