2 die as car falls into canal

Anandpur Sahib: Former block samiti chairman Jatinder Chaudhary was killed when his car fell into the Bhakra canal near here on Friday. A woman from the town accompanying him in the car also died in the accident that occurred near the Santgarh fort. Passers-by raised the alarm and soon SDM Amarjit Singh Bains and DSP Sant Singh Dhaliwan reached the spot to monitor the rescue operations. The divers were able to retrieve both bodies after a few hours. Inquest proceedings have been initiated under Section 174 of the CrPC. — TNS
