Several cultural and religious programmes will be organised at the Nanda Devi temple in December on the completion of 200 years of the establishment of the shrine.
The Nanda Devi temple in Almora was established in 1760 by Chand King Deep Chand while the idols of deity were brought by British Commissioner GW Trail in 1816.
Shirish Pandey, president of the Nanda Devi temple committee, Almora, said the temple was earlier known as Deepchandeswar temple. "The temple not only depicts decorated wooden umbrellas on the seats of the deities, but also houses traditional deities," said Kaushal Kishor Saxena, archaeologist based in Almora.
