Kullu, October 15
The mega Kullu nati — ‘Pride of Kullu’ — was held at the Rath ground today. Dressed in traditional attire, as many as 3,500 persons, mostly women, took part in the event held for the third consecutive year.
Last year, the mega Kullu nati set a world record by witnessing participation from 9,892 persons. The event was launched during the Dasehra festival in 2014 and had made it to the Limca Book of Records by registering 8,540 participants then.
Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Dhani Ram Shandil was the chief guest. He also participated in the event. The minister lauded the efforts of the district administration for conducting the event. He said: “Such functions give an insight to our rich culture and help preserve the old tradition.”
Yunus Khan, Deputy Commissioner, Kullu and vice-chairman, Kullu Dasehra Festival Committee, said social messages ‘Swachhta’ and ‘Beti Hai Anmol’ were conveyed through the event. All participants were administered oath to maintain cleanliness. Kullu District Health Officer Sushil Chander Sharma said an awareness campaign to wash hands on the Global Handwash Day was launched. He said 90 per cent germs and bacteria were removed by washing hands which helped keep various ailments at bay. The message ‘Save the Girl Child’ was also conveyed. A play on disaster management was also staged. Kullu SP Padam Chand, ADC Vinay Singh Thakur and other dignitaries were present at the event.
