35,000 registries scanned under Revenue Dept''s pilot project

Ludhiana was the first district, where the pilot project for the computerisation of land revenue records was launched. Under this, all land registries of three different sub-registrar offices are being scanned.
Kashmir Singh, District Informatics Officer, Ludhiana, said: “The pilot project was launched in Ludhiana nearly two months ago. After the completion of this project here, it will be launched in other districts of the state as well.”
Arun Gupta, District System Manager of Punjab Land Records Society, said: “The Punjab Government has given the work of scanning of land revenue records to National Informatics Centre Services Incorporated. It has further outsourced Enhira, a software company, for this work. An amount of Rs 2.25 crore will be spent on the scanning and computerisation of land registeries of three sub-registrar offices of Ludhiana — Sub Regisrar Office (East), Sub Registrar Office (West) and Sub Registrar Office (Central) under the pilot project.”
Vipin Kumar, coordinator of Enhira, said: “We have engaged 25 employees on contract for this job. It is a long process to scan and bind together all registries. First the document is prepared in a serial manner. It is followed by taping of torn out pages, scanning, data entry, quality check by the Revenue Department and binding of registries. As many as 50 to 100 land registries are bind together.”
He said 35,000 land registries of Ludhiana (East) Sub Registrar office have been scanned so far. Arun Gupta said the total registries of Ludhiana East were 13,28,000 and the pages to be scanned were 66,40,000. Similarly, Ludhiana SRO West has 4,23,000 documents with approximately 2,11,500 pages and SRO Ludhiana South has 93,000 documents with approximately 4,65,000 pages.
The deadline for the completion of this project is one-and-a-half years.
