An alarming 39.2% of the Dadu Majra population is in the moderate to high-risk category for cardiovascular disease. This was revealed during a health screening camp organised at Dadu Majra dispensary here today. It was organised under the leadership of medical officer Dr Shareta and Dr Sandhya Ghai, principal, NINE, PGIMER, Chandigarh.
A total of 163 adults were screened for cardiovascular diseases at the camp.
Arun Sood, Mayor, Chandigarh, inaugurated the event. They expressed concern over various health problems faced by Dadu Majra residents due to its proximity with the dumping ground.
The students of NINE participated in the screening camp under the supervision of Manjula Thakur, Suresh and Ravneet, teaching faculty of NINE.
Various stalls were organised here. Health education was provided with the help of various charts on dental hygiene, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, healthy lifestyle, hand hygiene and vector-borne disease. Other stalls included thyroid testing counter, HB estimation counter, RBS, malaria test and physiotherapy.
The students also organised a nutrition stall and conducted a role play on creating awareness on healthy lifestyle.
