6 sanitary napkin-vending machines installed

The local Municipal Corporation (MC) today started installing 30 sanitary napkin-vending machines and incinerators in women toilets in different parts of the city.

Mayor Arun Sood said the MC had purchased 30 sanitary napkin-vending machines and incinerators for use by women under the Swachh Bharat Mission. The agenda regarding this project, worth Rs 18.10 lakh, had been approved by the Finance and Contract Committee of the MC.

He said the work was started today from Fragrance Garden, Sector 36, and six machines were installed including those at Japanese Garden, Sector 31, near the booth market, Sector 32, near Gurdwara Sahib, Sector 34, the gold market, Sector 35, and near Indian Jewellers, Sector 37.

He said the user would get three sanitary napkins of good quality for Rs 10 through the vending machine. The used napkins would be destroyed by throwing these in incinerators to keep the city neat and clean. He said such machines would be installed in the remaining 24 locations within a week.
