There are a total of 657 accident-prone black spots on various highways in the state, of which 231 are highly vulnerable to fatal road accidents.
As per the statistics compiled by the GVK Emergency Services, which provides the 108 ambulance service in the state, the maximum number of accidents took place on these spots. The ambulance service has attended 8.21 lakh emergencies from December 2010 till December 31, 2016. The GVK Emergency Service has the credit of saving 66,220 lives due to timely medical aid.
The statistics on road traffic accidents (RTA) also give a peep into the most vulnerable day of the week and the time when the highest number of accidents occurred. The analysis is based on the emergencies that the 108 ambulance has attended to in the last six years. Of the total 8.21 lakh emergencies, as many as 46,619 were related to vehicular trauma.
Kangra district with maximum of 95 accident prone spots tops the chart, followed by Shimla-88, Mandi-71, Solan-68 and Chamba-62. Of these, maximum number of accidents took place at 41 spots in Kangra, Shimla-33, Mandi-29 and Solan and Chamba-21 each.
During the last six years, maximum of 8,770 road accidents took place in Kangra district, Una-6,372, Solan-6,307, Mandi-4,853, Shimla-5,528 and Sirmaur-4,319.
