80% Panipat students fail merit criteria

About 80 per cent students in the district failed to pass ‘merit’ criteria set by the state government for admission under Rule 134-A. Only 448 students qualified for admission against 3,680 vacancies.

The indefinite strike by private schools has brought the admission process to a halt even as the results were declared on Thursday.

More than 3,500 students had applied for admission in private schools under Rule 134-A. The Education Department had set 55 per cent as minimum qualifying marks for the entrance examination held on May 1.

A total of 2,113 students appeared in the examination of which only 545 students were declared pass in which 237 students were from Panipat block, 11 from Matlauda block, 46 from Israna block, 121 from Samalkha block and 23 from Bapoli block. The total pass percentage stood at 21.20 per cent.

Jai Bhagwan Khatak, District Education Officer, said, “The students who had passed can now take admission in private schools.
