CD Hospital refers two H1N1 suspected patients to SMHS

The Chest Diseases Hospital, which is an associated hospital of Government Medical College, Srinagar, today referred two suspected H1N1 patients to Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) Hospital for further tests.

The Chest Diseases Hospital has already established a preliminary OPD, where nearly 500 patients were today screened for H1N1-related symptoms.

“Two patients suspected of H1N1 infection, who visited the hospital OPD today, were referred to SMHS for collection of samples for tests,” said Dr Naveed Nazir Shah, nodal officer for H1N1 at Chest Diseases Hospital in Srinagar.

He said the hospital had already received 1,190 Tamiflu tablets treating H1N1 patients, besides masks and other protective gear, adding that more drugs would be procured in the coming days.

Asked about the number of patients admitted to the newly established isolation ward and ICU, he added that the ward was ready and the admissions might start from tomorrow afternoon as still some wiring was being done.

The isolation ward has a capacity of 20 beds, including intensive care unit (ICU), which is fitted with three invasive and eight non-invasive ventilators.

Meanwhile, the authorities have also set up a control room in Barzulla to facilitate people, who can call on telephone nos. 0194-2440283 and 0194-2430581. People have been urged to contact the control room in working days from 10.30 am to 8 pm in case of need.

During a high-level meeting yesterday, the divisional administration was informed that all hospitals of the Valley have been kept on alert to curb the spread of swine flu in the region and for this purpose, necessary medicines and other facilities have been kept available in all health institutions.

It was also informed that isolation wards have also been established in all hospitals of the Valley.
