Aadil wins junior golf c''ship in Gurgaon

CHANDIGARH:City lad Aadil Bedi carded a two-under in the final round to clinch the Northern India Junior Boys Golf Championship at the Golden Green Golf Course in Gurgaon on Friday.

City lad Aadil Bedi carded a two-under in the final round to clinch the Northern India Junior Boys Golf Championship at the Golden Green Golf Course in Gurgaon on Friday. 

The 15-year-old scored 70-65-76-70 for a total card of seven-under 281 to register a 10-shot lead over his nearest competitor Manav Bias of Haryana.   Chandigarh's Adilbir Singh finished third with a total score of 293. Bedis' card of 283 included 18 birdies. His seven-under 65 in the second round was the day's best and coarse record for the amateurs.  "The conditions were tough. It was a cold and foggy day. I have been consistent in the last 12 rounds and have managed to shoot under pars on regular occasions," Bedi said after his victory. 

With this win I have now moved to No. 2 position on the Indian Golf Union merit list for A category," he added. Bedi now has two wins and four podium finishes to his credit in the seven matches played so far in the domestic circuit.  

The youngster, meanwhile, sounded optimistic about his chances in the All India Final scheduled to be held next week.

Team title for Harjinder

Harjinder Kang, meanwhile, teamed up with Simarjeet Singh to win the All India Amateur Team Event with a combined total of 299. 

Kang and Singh, comprising Team C, combined well to win the overall title, finishing two strokes ahead of India Team B. 

"We were just asked to make a team when we got there and to everyone's surprise we played so well that we won the title," a jubilant Kang, who carded rounds of 71 and 77, said after the victory.The two-day stroke event saw teams from South Africa, Sri Lanka, Poland and Tanzania.
