Six robbers, including three juveniles, were arrested by the Chandigarh Police after chasing them for around an hour on Wednesday night. The accused were riding an auto- rickshaw.
Police sources said the robbers entered into an ATM booth in Sector 24 and started smashing the ATM machine with a hammer, axe and rods. The accused were spotted by a passerby who informed police personnel at the Sector 24 police post.
Sources said that police teams were rushed to the spot; but by then, the accused had fled in an auto-rickshaw.
The sources claimed that the robbers gave a tough competition to police personnel who were chasing them in a police van. The robbers made police party to chase them for about 10km. The sources said the robbers escaped from Sector 24 towards Sector 17, they then drove towards Dhanas, where the police party lost them.
Later, the auto-ridden robbers were apprehended with the help of another police gypsy near Sector 38.
Three juveniles were sent to Juvenile Home, Sector 25, while the other three, including Lakhwinder, Rahul and Jitender of Mohali were remanded in judicial custody.
A police official said that the gang had earlier committed a robbery in Sohana in Mohali. The Mohali police were informed about the arrest of gang members.
